January 11, 2010 - Across the region
Sharing Total Place practice nationally, from the Bradford pilot, and the region
YoHr Space, the RIEP for Yorkshire and the Humber, have appointed two Local Improvement Advisors (LIA’s), Adam Fineberg and Rachel Mann, to work with local public service delivery partners in the region. Their specific focus is to share the learning from Bradford’s Total Place work, other pilot projects and similar projects nationally and support this kind of work locally. The aspiration is that localities feel inspired, informed and empowered to take forward Total Place style work that brings quality and efficiency benefits to public services in their areas.
Total place
Total Place looks at how a ‘whole area’ approach to public services in a local area can lead to better services at less cost through 13 pilot areas in England.
This work was a key announcement of Sir Michael Bichard’s Operational Efficiency Programme work on Local Incentives and Empowerment, which seeks to reduce costs and introduce new ways of working, through collaboration and local leadership, within the context of constrained resources and public expectations of higher quality services. The Total Place Pilots were announced within the Budget Report April 2009.
Workshops
You will have seen in our recent Newsletter the early notice of workshops we were planning.
Workshops will take place in each sub-region, addressing the areas:
· Learning about Bradford’s pilot work – the ‘deep dive’ and ‘parallel places’
· Capturing existing similar practice and methodologies
· Developing/organising services together
· Accessing support
Apart from learning about the Bradford experience and other projects across the country, the workshops are also aimed at identifying and sharing existing practice in the sub-region and fostering a sub-regional exchange of experiences and pooling of efforts. They will be of interest to Heads of Service level representatives from Local Authorities and partner local public service providers and staff actively involved in the planning and delivery of local public services. The workshops will cover the range of themes addressed by local public services.
The event will start at 10.00 am with registration and refreshments from 9.30 am and finish with a networking lunch at 1.15 pm. The programme for the workshops is attached.
