LocalGovCamp

June 12, 2010 - The National Railway Museum, York

A FREE event that aims to facilitate open debate and free thinking amongst local government’s brightest and most innovative people.

Society is changing, expectations are evolving and, while budgets shrink, demands for localisation and more public services are on the rise. One model to address this is to use innovative approaches such as social technology or mobile working; however the road is paved with questions.

This LocalGovCamp event seeks to explore the innovative opportunities in the public sector and give answers and solutions to those questions. LocalGovCamp Yorkshire & Humber is an ‘un-conference’ – delegates will shape the agenda and the day. The event is for anyone from directors to frontline workers who have ideas and inspiration that they’re prepared to share. To download the flyer and for booking information click here.

Councillors

LocalGovCamp’s dedicated ‘21st Century Councillor’ session will be led by
Carl Whistlecraft, Assistant Head of Policy & Governance Service at Kirklees Council & Councillor Tim Cheetham of Barnsley MBC.
It will also welcome proactive social media user Councillor Simon Cooke of Bradford MDC.

What the 21st CENTURY COUNCILLOR event will include:

Using Social Media to Support Local Leadership
• Ever wanted to find out what your communities are talking about on-line?
• Not enough hours in the day to deliver all those leaflets in your ward?
• Wishing there was another way to get your message across to local people and press?
• Wondering if you should care about all the ‘social media’ stuff?

A chance to:
• Generate and cultivate an interest in social media
• Hear straight from the mouths of other councillors
• Plan what happens next.

What it won’t be:
• Officers telling councillors what you should be doing
• An attempt to turn you into geeks
• In any way ‘techy’ or a ‘training session’.

All Councillors will be very welcome to join the main LocalGovCamp Yorkshire & Humber event after the 21st Century Councillor session in the same venue.
