Supporting Underperformance

Spent/Allocated 2008/09 £50,000

Projected Spend 2009/10 £200,000

In addition to the other workstreams where we have made provision to support underperformance, we have earmarked a specific fund so that we can provide a rapid response to any authority in difficulty.

One of the unique features of our region is the extent of the ownership and leadership of the Improvement agenda by local politicians. This is important in tackling instances where a council is seriously underperforming or at risk of failure, particularly in terms of meeting the agreed targets in its LAA. We want YoHr Space (and its improvement partners) to be seen by the Government as the first point of response and support in such circumstances – in preference to external inspection or formal intervention.

Working with our partners, we have a number of mechanisms in place to support underperformance such as peer review and challenge. This is a priority which we are looking to further develop into Year two with other RIEPs.
