Background:
Barnsley MBC and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Services are participating in a Retail Enforcement Pilot, supported by the Better Regulation Executive (BRE), to devise and evaluate new approaches to regulation of business.
Delivery:
Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield will participate.
Outcomes:
This pioneering work seeks to explore how the use of mobile technology, and data sharing between different regulatory agencies, can allow regulators to act flexibly and differentiate between businesses to target efforts away from those that are well run and towards those that are inherently high risk or poorly performing.
Officers within different functional areas will work differently, using their skills to assess compliance across the whole range of regulatory requirements rather than just their own, negating much of the need for separate visits from different specialisms.
