Innovation

Innovation is a theme that can easily get missed in the day-to-day running of councils. Individually and as a sector, councils are being innovative all the time. Councils are thinking of better ways to serve their local communities, drive better value from the public purse, identify better ways to address individual and community needs. This can mean focusing on things that are not necessarily new but are ideas that are locally relevant, efficient and appropriate.

Yorkshire and Humber recognises that, in order to deliver excellence for its communities, there is a need for innovative thinking across the region, if we are to ensure a step change in the quality of public services locally, at a time of constrained resources. It is particularly important during times of financial pressure to exploit every opportunity for sharing experiences and using learning to reduce costs. The IDeA is helping to develop an approach to innovation support and sharing across the region. Our Innovation Fund will support the development of new ideas to the stage of effective implementation.

"Success will require authorities and their partners to work across all levels in a co-ordinated and coherent way. They will need to engage whole communities, improve their performance, maximise limited resources and do things differently"
