Background:
The Jamie Oliver Ministry of Food (MoF) launch took place in Rotherham in April 2008 when the MoF and Pass It On (PIO) campaigns were announced to the public. Initial costs were funded by Jamie Oliver's company and Sainsburys but this support ceased in November 2008. A town centre unit provided daily drop-in cooking demonstrations for various social and workplace groups. Demonstrations have also taken place at events, including healthy Chinese cooking and healthy barbecued food. Students of the PIO campaign have been involved in activities in and out of the shop and worked with a number of partners across the borough. The centre has now been handed over to the council, cooperating with partner agencies. Match funding of £125,000 has been secured to continue to develop the schemes.

Delivery:
Funding will continue to develop the schemes, involving a wide range of partners, subject to evaluation of impact and outcomes. Additional staff will be brought in to replace food advisors and run more sessions. There will be continued support for PIO through, for example, colleges and schools. Service provision will be enhanced through NHS health trainers and the Oral Health Promotion Team. Specific groups will be targeted and particularly those on low income: parents and carers of young children; carers, and vulnerable older people. Links to other health services such as Stop Smoking Services will be explored. £125,000 will enable the centre to operate at capacity for a further 16 months.

Outcomes:
Increased awareness of the Cook and Eat message and people's knowledge, attitudes, and motivation to buying, preparing and eating healthy meals. Contribution to local performance targets in relation to the Rotherham Obesity Strategies and Action Plans. Contribution to Rotherham Partnership Alive Themes. Learning and expanding new skills of vulnerable groups, e.g., teenage parents and NEETS, thereby contributing to LAA targets on under 18 conceptions and NEETS. Improved community cohesion and contribution to LAA target. Improved perception of Rotherham overall.
