Background:
In 2006, Bradford was reported in the media as 'the UK's fattest city' resulting in the implementation of a wide range of initiatives in recent years through schools and colleges, PCT and community organisations. The leader of Bradford council became involved in the original MoF campaign and met with Jamie Oliver and other councils in the region to consider participation in the project. A multi-agency project team was established in Bradford to map activities which concluded, while valuable, activities and information were fragmented. A MoF will enable these and other initiatives to be co-ordinated, supported and promoted through a 'hub and spoke' model. Match funding of 50% has already been identified.

Delivery:
Based on the operational arrangements recommended by the Jamie Oliver Company and the current operations of the Rotherham pilot, funding will provide centre set up costs and a staff team to deliver activities to the local community including PIO to impact on a number of Bradford's LAA indicators, Sustainable Community Strategy priorities and priorities for children and young people.
Outcomes:
Contribution to Health and Wellbeing priority to 'reduce obesity and improve healthy eating for children and older people' which will impact on the 'overall all-age cause mortality rate'. 'Infant mortality' will be reduced through working with mothers to improve nutrition and 'enable informed choices throughout life to remain healthy and well'. Involvement of older and disabled people will 'help maintain independence and wellbeing at difficult times'. Participation of children and young people will 'help every child to be happy and resilient and feel good about themselves'. The 'contribution of children and young people will also be recognised and appreciated'. Improvement in 'skills, aspiration and enterprise' which will impact on NEETS and 'promote business growth and secure employment'. Overall this will 'create an opportunity for everyone in Bradford to get involved' thereby improving cohesion and inclusion and improving 'perceptions of the district, its neighbourhoods and cultural life.
