The main driver for supporting improvement in Yorkshire and Humber is the Regional Improvement and Efficiency Strategy (RIES) for 2008-11 which sets out how the region with the support of YoHr Space, is going to tackle our regional improvement priorities and the priorities set out in the National Improvement and Efficiency Strategy.
At the heart of the RIES is the concept of ‘sector-led’ improvement which puts local authorities and partnerships in charge of owning and driving performance improvement and excellence in public service design and delivery. The first two high level objectives in the RIES are:
- To develop and embed a sector-led collaborative approach to transformation and continuous improvement that is citizen and customer driven.
- To embed a culture of authorities directing their own improvement and VfM through mutual support and challenge.
The effectiveness of this ‘sector-led’ approach to improvement depends on the self-awareness of councils and their partners, knowing where they are strong and where they have development needs.
Through the Improvement Framework YoHr Space, the IDeA, Local Improvement Advisors and councils themselves will be able to offer help, advice, guidance and practical support to councils and their partners as they work together to transform public service delivery in local areas.
Much of this support will be low cost or no cost peer support and advice but YoHr Space is also making £400,000 available to support improvement requests.
