Background:
The RIES has identified considerable scope for speeding up the pace of improvement in resident satisfaction with authority services. Early in 2008, Chief Executives agreed a number of actions to improve communications and subsequently residents' views on their authorities' and the region's performance. Wide variations in the degree of professionalism within communications operations is evident.
Delivery:
Through the PR and Communications Network (with memberships from councils, fire and police services), this project aims to build on the current Learning Exchange Series to provide masterclasses (2 each year) at senior and executive level on building visionary, ambitious, political and managerial communications leadership. Workshops (3 or 4 each year) for communication professionals and trainees will focus on core skills, tracking performance, new media, media awareness and marcoms.
Outcomes:
Working with both under-performing and well performing authorities, the key objective is to increase the average communication score across the region from 44.36% to 46%, above the current national average. A full dissemination and embedding strategy will be developed including working with other regions and national bodies.
