Background:
Demographic changes across the region, for example, increasing numbers of migrant workers, areas of high BME populations, segregated communities, growth in extremism and growth in support of BNP have led to tension issues in some areas. As a consequence Community Cohesion has been identified as a regional priority for LGYH as part of the overall priority ‘Improving How We Work with Communities’.
Delivery:
This work is being led by Cllr Kris Hopkins, Leader of Bradford Council and Rob Vincent, of Kirklees Council, is the lead Chief Executive. Delivery will be through two regional community cohesion officers based in LGYH.
Outcomes:
Activities/training around leadership, member and officer development and partnerships will focus on skills and cultural and process changes to deliver long term benefits. It will raise awareness and understanding of cohesion issues and cultural change required to address them. It will also raise the knowledge and profile of national, regional and sub-regional initiatives and of ‘what works’. Councils and partners will be better equipped to meet the challenge of delivering LAAs and local priorities. Learning from regional and sub-regional approaches will be shared. Performance will be enhanced. Opportunities for collaboration will be maximised.
