Web 2.0 is a term that describes a second generation of the internet. Its focus is on the ability for people to come together in a virtual community to share information online. With Web 2.0 being so prominently used, there is an increasing expectation for local government to use this evolving medium. Moreover, central government is promoting and using Web 2.0 technologies to both inform and engage with local communities. Two of these overwhelmingly popular, and low cost, Web 2.0 technologies (Twitter and Facebook) are now fairly mature and this project reviewed their use in Yorkshire and Humber. The project aims to share best practice and give public sector partners in the region an understanding of the challenges, advantages, risk and impacts with these channels of engagement.
