Inspire-Aspire South Yorkshire

July 29, 2010 - Lead Organisation: Sheffield City Council

Summary:
Providing children and young people with the ability to set and achieve their goals is vital both for their own success and for the prosperity of the wider community. Connecting with young people isn’t always easy but as the scoping period of the Inspire-Aspire South Yorkshire project draws to a close, the project partners have established a number of principles with which to take the programme forwards.

The purpose of the project:
Inspire-Aspire South Yorkshire is an innovative project which examines how social marketing methods can help influence the attitudes, opinions and behaviour of children and young people across South Yorkshire.

Peter Mucklow, Programme Sponsor and Children's Commissioner, at Sheffield City Council explains: “Helping children and young people aspire to achievable goals in life and setting them on the path to realising their potential is one of the exciting parts of working in public service, but can also seem one of the most elusive. Low self-confidence, fear of failure, and families and communities which do not encourage the individual to aim high or do something different can all be barriers.
