Care Management and Social Work

July 29, 2010 - Lead Organisations: In Control and Yorkshire & Humber Improvement Partnership

Summary:
The personalisation agenda has changed the way in which care providers and social workers deliver their services. It is vital therefore that everyone working in care management and social work understands the personalisation approach and how it fits in to their role.

The Care Management and Social Work project has studied the impact of personalisation on the role of social work and provides practitioners working in care management and social work with a better understanding of how personalisation affects them. It has established the skills needed to deliver personalisation and identified the skills and competencies that already exist.

The purpose of the project:
The project will provide a set of tools for the Local Authority to convert to a system of self-directed support within care management. A key part of the project has been the creation of a paper which will assist authorities in beginning to think about what role social workers might have under a system of self-directed support.

In addition the project aims to help colleges and universities who are running care and social work courses to understand the personalisation agenda. It has been recognised that course materials in some academic establishments may need updating to include personalisation.
